In the vast melting pot that is the United States, July is a month of great significance. It marks the celebration of American independence, a momentous occasion (like my birthday!) that embodies the aspirations and dreams of millions of immigrants who have come to this land in search of a better life. I want to share my own personal journey as an immigrant in the United States; from arriving as a wide-eyed tourist, to becoming a naturalized citizen. It was a challenging path, filled with hurdles and setbacks, but with determination and the help of some remarkable immigration attorneys, I was able to realize my dream. Now, as a senior immigration paralegal, I take pride in assisting others on their own paths towards achieving the American dream.
Humble Beginning
Like many others, I arrived in the United States as a wide-eyed tourist, eager to explore the wonders of this vast and diverse country. Little did I know that my journey would take a surprising turn, leading me down a path towards calling this land my home.
Becoming an F-1 Student
Driven by my ambition, I decided to continue education in the United States. However, navigating the complex immigration system and adjusting to a new country proved to be far more challenging than I had anticipated. The lack of proper guidance and the absence of a support system those days made my journey even tougher. It was during this time that I encountered a fateful setback—an encounter with a dishonest immigration attorney who only added to my struggles. I was disheartened, but I refused to give up on my dream.

Just when I thought all hope was lost, a ray of light appeared in the form of a great attorney who took over my case. The joy and sense of accomplishment that filled my heart were indescribable. I knew that I had overcome numerous challenges, and I was determined to use my newfound status to help others on their own journeys.
A Day in the Life of an Immigration Paralegal
Every morning, as I embark on my role as a senior immigration paralegal, my day begins with a flurry of activity. The first order of business is checking my emails, ensuring that I address any urgent client inquiries or updates. Prompt and effective communication is crucial, as I understand the anxieties and uncertainties that immigrants often face during their journey.
Staying up-to-date with USCIS rules and updates is essential in my line of work. The immigration landscape is constantly evolving, and being aware of the latest changes allows me to provide accurate information/help to our clients. Throughout the day, I engage in ongoing communication with clients, answering their various questions and concerns.
One of the most valuable tools in my arsenal is the Case Status software. It allows me to review and update the progress of our clients’ cases, ensuring transparency and providing clients with real-time access to the status of their applications.
Reviewing immigration documentation is another vital part of my role. I, with the attorneys, precisely go through petitions and applications, ensuring accuracy and alignment with the complex requirements of the immigration system. Drafting petitions and applications is an integral part of my work as well.
One of the most fulfilling aspects of my job is communicating with clients and discussing their cases with the attorneys. Our collaborative efforts, led by exceptional Managing Attorney Fiona and her Partner Ray as well as supporting attorneys and a dedicated team, ensure that each client receives personalized attention and care. Recognizing that immigration cases are deeply personal journeys filled with hopes and dreams, we provide empathetic support and guidance while we work towards achieving the American dream.

My journey from a curious tourist to a proud United States citizen has been filled with trials and tribulations.
