Last week, the state of Texas sued the Biden administration over a new immigration plan which attempts to address the growing backlog of asylum cases. Texas specifically challenged a rule that would allow USCIS employees to review these claims.

The new plan would speed up the process of asylum significantly. Texas argues the plan would violate the Administrative Procedures Act. They also say it would make it easier for migrants to enter the country illegally.

In response, Security Senator Alejandro Mayorkas says the plan allows for, “a more functional and sensible asylum system to ensure that individuals who are eligible will receive protection more swiftly, while those who are not eligible will be rapidly removed.”
